PEORIA (WEEK) -- A local nursing home is responding to allegations that someone raped a resident in their care.
Generations at Peoria located at 5600 N. Gen Elm Drive in Peoria, was fined $25,000 for failure to "ensure a resident was free from abuse and sexual assault," according to a Fourth Quarter 2019 Illinois Department of Public Health report. (See Previous Story)
The report describes a CNA who alerted superiors to an alleged sexual assault on August 24th, 2019.
The employee says she put an elderly woman to bed around 6:45 p.m., then returned two hours later for a routine check to find the woman "terrified", with her underwear at her ankles, hair disheveled, markings along her groin, hair on her body that didn't belong to her, and the woman's bed moved in a different direction than how it was previously left.
A statement from the resident also read, "I was asleep and woke up to a man on top of me having sex with me. I sort of pushed the man, but he continued to have sex with me in my private parts. I have seen this man before, but cannot remember who he is."
The report did state the incident was turned over to local police and the resident was taken to the hospital where a rape kit was performed.
Results showed fluid was found inside the woman, though it's unclear whether or not it's linked to the DNA of two male employees and another male resident who were tested in connection.
Generations at Peoria Administrator Becky Hubbard said in a statement to 25 News:
"Due to HIPAA and the rights of all parties involved, the Facility cannot comment on the specifics of the incident. We can tell you that the Generations at Peoria staff followed and appropriately executed all protocols and procedures in responding to the allegation. The local police as well as the Department of Public Health were properly notified and involved in the investigation. We are committed to the ongoing safety of our residents. The Facility has a zero tolerance policy regarding resident protection and continues to ensure that all staff are diligent in providing a safe and caring environment. The facility is vigorously contesting these allegations and the litigation is still pending."
