We all knew it was bad. Anyone who watched the Detroit Lions defense attempting to rush the passer during 2019 could plainly see it was about as effective as skiing uphill without any poles.

But seeing just how inept it was relative to the other teams in the NFL in graphic representation really drove home the horrible Lions pass rush. Eric Eager from Pro Football Focus charted the number of pass rushers on average against the average time to throw for the opposing QB.

The Lions stand out for being both by far the worst in time to throw allowed and the fewest average pass rushers. They’re the only team that allowed over three seconds to pass, an eternity in the modern NFL.

It’s not at all typical for an NFL team to stand out that far from the rest in a graphic presentation of pretty much anything.
